MOTHERLOAD

MOTHERLOAD was a part of the Rutherfod Library Exhibition at the University of Alberta. This show is comprised of past and present alumni of the university and is generously curated and organized every year by Royden Mills.

MOTHERLOAD (2025) is not born from optimism, but from fear-emotional, societal, and maternal. As a way to process the fear and uncertainty I carry as a mother of two daughters growing up in these precarious times. As threats to human rights intensify and public systems erode, I find myself returning to craft as a means of coping and reclaiming agency. My eldest lives with an autoimmune disease that requires monthly hospital infusions-her health is bound to systems that feel increasingly fragile.

These realities shape the core of this work.

Repurposed ironing boards, mops, yarn, silicone, mum’s hair, breastmilk and resin.
